Mother's Day Brunch Feast @ Havana Central

“Mother- the essence of loveliness, The Beauty of a rose, The sparkle of a dewdrop And sunset's sweet repose.”-Lydia M. Johnson

Every 2nd Sunday of May, Mother’s Day is celebrated in the United States. It is a day in which we commemorate mothers and show them just how much we love them. (We don’t really need a holiday to let mami know how much we love her but this is a great excuse to go out to eat!)

These babes would not be here if it weren’t for our amazing mothers who have always supported us in all of our endeavors. We wanted to do something special for them and at the same time show our followers a good time. What better way to celebrate MOM then to take her to a LIVE restaurant that has an amazing ambiance, great food and not to mention serves BRUNCH!
The babes have had an eye out for Havana Central (West End location) ever since we heard that it was voted one of the “Top 10 Best Places in New York for Groups” by OpenTable diners, so we made reservations and decided to make it a family affair and include both of our families.

(We made reservations early because we know how packed places can get on Mother’s Day. Pre-planning is always a must for big holidays/occasions. You do not want to get left out of eating that churrasco because you failed to make reservations.)
As soon as you walk into Havana Central, you are greeted by friendly hosts that make you feel so at home. With its swanky décor and LIVE Latin music (YES they have a live band that plays from 1-4pm during Sunday brunch!), you feel like you are really in Cuba or somewhere in the Caribbean.

Since we had a large group we wanted to order several items off the drinks and appetizers menu to show you all (and our tummys) the different options Havana Central has to offer. We set it off with a pitcher of sangria and the waitress actually prepared the sangria right at our table! We were all pretty amazed by this and toasted to our wonderful mommas.
We also tried their mango mojitos (YUM!) and their margaritas! How could we go to a Cuban spot and not taste their mojitos?
For appetizers we had the following: lobster stuff avocado, empanadas stuffed with ground beef, queso fundido and stuffed plaintain baskets with meat, shredded beef, ground beef and shrimps. (Check out the food porn below.) All four appetizers were so delicious that the babes may just pop in again just to have these!

Now for the entrees: (My goodness this post is making be super hungry!)

SHRIMP WITH RICE- Jumbo Shrimp and savory saffron rice
MANGO-GLAZED SALMON-Fresh Atlantic salmon grilled to perfection topped
with our signature mango salsita

CRISPY SHREDDED BEEF (VACA FRITA)- Simmered pulled beef marinated overnight in
lime, ajicito peppers, garlic and onions sautéed
until crispy. Served with cilantro-flavored
rice al caballo (with a fried egg)
SKIRT STEAK (CHURRASCO)- The most flavorful center-cut skirt steak grilled
to perfection. Served with a cucumber, mango
and radish salad (Comes with Havana's Cuban version
of chimichurri sauce on the side)
TROPICAL PANCAKES- Two large Pancakes with ripe Bananas with a fresh Berry Compote on top
FISH OF THE DAY- Red Snapper with tiger shrimp and plantains
Every single dish was DELICIOUS. At no point did anyone dislike anything on their plate and that my friends is what we call SATISFACTION!

But we are not done yet! What is a meal without dessert? Yes, we did have dessert because it was a special occasion and our mommas wanted something sweeter than them. What momma asks for she gets!

Flan
Tres Leche
Our mother's were so happy and truly enjoyed their time at Havana Central thanks to our friends that created such a great vibe. They are already asking us when we are coming back!

We hear that they are planning a nice Father's Day Brunch fiesta next month and guess what? The Babes have been asked to "Guest Report" for this event! We will be reporting LIVE from Havana Central next month. Looks like this will turn into a family tradition. Stay tuned! Follow us on twitter @brunchinee for more updates!
