Weekend Roundup: Boozy Brunching

Boozy Brunching was all the rave this past weekend. The babes took it more UPTOWN this time around and we were not disappointed.

You guys ready for our WEEKEND ROUNDUP?! Here we goooo..... GIDDY UP!

Saturday morning we released our weekend hit list where we put a spotlight on LATIN BRUNCHES. We decided to check out DON PEDRO'S in the UPPER EAST SIDE since we were only a crosstown bus ride away. Now, let me put you onto something my little brunchineers: DON PEDRO'S offers a 3 course brunch with unlimited sangria for only $19.95! I don't know about you guys but I have not heard of many 3 course brunch deals out there. This is an offer you just can't refuse!

We arrived around 1:30pm and we got a table right away. Usually Saturdays are the less busy brunch days so take advantage of this if you ever come to DON PEDRO'S. Great intimate setting to catch up with friends.

Our waiter came over and took our order. Since it is a 3 course brunch, they expect you to order all 3 dishes at the same time (appetizer, main entree, and dessert). Once you order, that is when the sangria action begins. Wish they were a little quicker with re-filling your drinks but other than that the service is pretty good and so is the sangria. The sangria (may I add) uses wine directly from Spain and has diced apples and oranges in it.

The babes have been to Don P's for brunch before and we are big fans of their empanada appetizer so we ordered one chicken and one beef. These empanadas are so delicious and come in a bed of mixed greens with tasty sauces. Wish they would serve an extra empanada!

Also on the appetizer menu: traditional home-style chicken soup, Cuban style black bean soup, Australian lentil soup, and 2 typed of mixed salads.

Now, onto their main dishes! Oh boy this part can get pretty overwhelming (in a good way!) because there are so many tasty options on the menu! We went with the ROPA VIEJA which is Cuban style shredded beef w/ white rice and the CHURSQUITO AL CABALLO which is grilled skirt steak topped with eggs sunny side up served with yuca frita and chimichurri. Oh yea this is some serious brunching over here at Don P's! Check out the pics below so that you can fulfill your food porn for the day.

Other MAIN DISH options include: traditional Spanish omelets, grilled pork chops over rice, tender chunks of pork marinated in Caribbean spices, Tres Golpe (Dominican style breakfast that includes mashed plantains, fried eggs, cheese and sausages), braised chicken with potatoes,

Craving something sweet? No worries! Don P's has 3 great options! You can have flan, tres leche cake or sorbet! All very good. We tried the tres leche and the flan. YUM YUM YUM!

Ay Papasito!

As this past Friday we issued a Latin hit list the babes decided to continue throwing down the Latin brunch gauntlet all weekend long  by continuing the fiesta (in our mouth) Sunday with an AYCE AYCD brunch at
Papasitos Mexican Grill & Agave Bar Located at 223 Dykman St. NY. We were looking for a feast of kings as this brunch pulled double duty for our brave friend Val who just returned from the Army! Thank you for your dedication and for helping to ensure we can all enjoy our freedom! Needless to say our guests with us had hefty appetites and we aim to please…So High Ho High Ho off to Brunch uptown we go!

We tried to book a reservation and open table said nothing within 1.5 hours of our reservation no matter what time we tried. GASP! This naturally only intrigued us more.

Brunching Babes PSA: If you have a party of four or less, take the risk gets up in that hostesses face (politely)! Ask if there is seating at the Bar area, have a cocktail while you wait or explore somewhere nearby for a small aperitif and cocktail while you wait. Offer to leave your cell phone number or ask what time you should check back in. The point is if brunching at a certain place is your hearts true desires don’t give up without a little persistence!

Now back to our regularly scheduled program. After successfully securing a table Al fresco, no less! We proceeded to sit down begin our people watching and brunch extravaganza while I opened up my second and third stomach for business. To start we already knew Tequila Sunrises would be on deck. See how I casually threw that in there yea that’s right the drink selection includes Tequila sunrise and then your usual suspects (friends in my head) Mr. Mimosa and Mrs. Bellini!

Well buddy these drinks were not for the faint of heart I will tell you. If the bartender is sending the “hey these drinks have tequila in them” memo it was received loud and clear and we say thank you! LOL. Also important to note they  do not come in regular not champagne glasses so whatever your normal MimoBelli intake is you will surely have to reduce by half. You and your nonexistent hangover can thank me later.
After we were done casing out the joint the people and the first round of drinks we descended upon the AYCE portion which was set up buffet style.

They have a great set up on top of the buffet with chips salsa and guacamole. If your alternating between going up to the buffet line and purse watching be a doll and make a plate for your table sharing is caring! Now my friends what follows is a plethora of food porn no explanations needed. Just sit back enjoy and plan to make a date with your crew, honey or familia to attend this cant miss event!
