For the love of MOM....and BRUNCH

May 8th is MOTHER’S DAY and we here at BRUNCHINEE are excited to bring you some tasty yet fun ideas to celebrate that special lady in your life. Don’t let mom do all the work! It is her day and she should be treated like a queen! What better way to show your appreciation then to take mom on a mini cruise along the New York Harbour that serves BRUNCH!! Yes you read right! A Little Brunch Porn Goes A Long Way....

Hello my little popovers,                     


Today I committed a Cardinal Foodie Sin, I  broke the       
       
“Thou Shall Never Skip Breakfast” 

commandment. Instead I opted for an extra 20, if were being really honest 30 minutes of sleep. Sometimes you need it when you’ve been up past your bed time Food Networking & Cooking channeling your little heart out. Then to boot I was stuck in the apparently 2 min torrential downpour that was perfectly orchestrated by Mother Nature to coincide with the train exit to office walk.

If you’re wondering did I have an umbrella? No! This is the ranting of a breakfastless umbrella devoid woman who ran 5 blocks in the rain. Had this been a Rom Com it would’ve been passionate music playing  and the man of my dreams would have been waiting for me with a gourmet breakfast basket, mimosas & a change of clothes, but it was 9am NYC on a crowded weekday morning, I was hungry late and wet.
Before even pulling myself into the swing of the day with tissues in my feet to absorb the “moistness” and full voice mail I kicked back a cup of coffee like a shot at my favorite bar and practiced one of my SFB’s, one of my go to rituals If I was to get through this day.

What is SFB you ask? Well Carrie Once said on Sex & The City we all have SSB: Secret Single Behaviors. The episode was so funny and poignant because it was well true. Well I also believe we have SFB: Secret Foodie Behaviors, which I define as ways that we relate participate or interact with our food that makes us feel satisfied and bring us immense pleasure but we don’t necessarily parade.
Well one of my SFB which I find is increasingly more common. Is I have my own personal collection of Food Pornography neatly stored on my Iphone ready for my perusal any time I need a fix or a pick me up. We’re talking over 800 pics taken right at the peak of pleasure when my food was either placed in front of my face or my first bite. Going back through these pictures brings me an even bigger thrill than when I do my daily NY Times Dinning, Food & Wine magazine or recipe site trips because they are so personal.

Each picture instantly evokes a memory of the people I was with or the experience of a new restaurant the discovery a favorite dish and the taste of a novel flavor. My pictures remind me that a special occasion, a weekend, my next meal, good times with friends or family, and the discovery of the next foodie gem is right around the corner. Whatever present aggravation I feel is instantly diminished when I see these pictures I am reminded it’s Thursday and it’s time to zero in on what the next new Brunch discovery will be! There are so many restaurants on my wish list and only two precious weekend days to divide and conquer our next adventures. I know there are places I don’t even know exist yet I am anxious to eat my way through them all! Each meal is a story and each picture along with the feelings they evoke is the only keepsake I can take and cherish.

So I have shared a very small amount of phone pictures taken on the fly of delicious brunches I have had the fortune of tasting. It can be a tasty little pick me up!
